Happy obtained his Bachelor of Engineering degree from Nanyang Technological University (NTU). He went on to pursue his doctorate with the NUS Graduate School for Integrative Sciences and Engineering (NGS).

Happy joined IPOS in September 2014 and is currently a Senior Patent Examiner at IPOS International. He has been involved in the development of an internal search handbook for materials-related applications. He also follows developments in the patent classification system at WIPO meetings. Currently, he is involved in the training of new examiners and the implementation of a quality management system in Patent Search, Examination & Analytics.

Mr. Alban Kang
Senior Consultant, IP and Tech & Comms groups, Singapore

Alban is a consultant with Bird & Bird ATMD's Intellectual Property and Tech & Comms group in Singapore. With almost 40 years in practice, he has developed a specialist focus on complex patent litigation and other contentious IP-related cases.

He has represented major pharmaceutical companies, software companies, computer and medical device manufacturers, well-known trade mark owners, book publishers, international airlines, established hotel chains, as well as collection and advertising agencies. Alban has been lead counsel in complex patent litigation and other contentious IP-related cases and has been involved in several high-profile and precedent-setting IP cases before the Singapore Court of Appeal and the Patent Office, as well as handling multi-jurisdictional IP litigation. He was inducted into the Legal 500 Hall of Fame for intellectual property in Singapore.

Alban has also written and presented many articles and papers across the spectrum of IP law. He is the author of 'Enforcing Injunctions', a co-contributor to 'Essays on Computer Law', and general editor of 'A Guide to Singapore Patent Law'. He also authored the Patent section of 'The Halsbury Law of Singapore' and the Singapore chapter on Patent Claim Interpretation.

Alban is ranked as a leading intellectual property lawyer by Asia Pacific Legal 500, IAM Patent 1000, Chambers Asia Pacific and IPAsia. He is also a panel member of the WIPO Arbitration and Mediation Centre, Asian Domain Name Dispute Resolution Centre. Alban is also a Certified Mediator with the Singapore International Mediation Centre (SIMC) and Singapore International Mediation Institute (SIMI).

Justice Simon Thorley KC
International Judge

He studied Jurisprudence at Oxford University from 1968-1971 and received the degree of MA (Hons). He was called to the Bar of England and Wales by the Honourable Society of The Inner Temple in 1972 and then began practice at the Intellectual Property Bar. He was appointed King’s Counsel in 1989. Justice Thorley has more than 40 years of experience in Intellectual Property and related law, and was a leading practitioner in that field until he ceased practice in 2014. He was a Deputy High Court Judge in England and Wales and was also the Deputy Chairman of the Copyright Tribunal in the United Kingdom for eight years. He was a co-editor of the 13th-15th Editions of Terrell on the Law of Patents, a standard work of reference on UK patent law. Justice Thorley served as Treasurer of the Inner Temple in 2013.

Lord Justice Colin Birss
Judge

Colin Birss is a judge of the Court of Appeal of England and Wales and Deputy Head of Civil Justice.  He was called to the English Bar in 1990 and practiced in intellectual property law, taking silk in 2008.  In 2010 Colin Birss was appointed judge of the Patents County Court (now Intellectual Property Enterprise Court (IPEC)).  In 2013 he was appointed to the High Court, Chancery Division and in 2019 became Judge in Charge of the Patents Court.  In 2021 he was appointed to the Court of Appeal anda as Deputy Head of Civil Justice.

Mr. Daniel Collopy
Principal, Engineering and ICT

Dan is Principal, specialising in Engineering and ICT at Spruson. He has extensive experience in designing, negotiating and executing complex corporate transactions involving IP plays, including M&A, joint ventures, and IPOs. He has also prepared and prosecuted numerous patents in semiconductor and communication technologies; electric automobile engine control systems, avionics and other related areas. 

Dan's corporate IP experience includes more than a decade as an IP attorney with Motorola and several years as Associate General Counsel for Advanced Micro Devices. Dan has also served as an IP Consultant for then Exploit Technologies, the technology commercialization arm of A*Star.
